Plant health is the foundation of food security and is deeply connected to human, animal, and environmental well-being. Healthy plants are nutrient-rich and provide maximum benefits to both people and animals.

LO – Loralai Olives understands that while olive trees require minimal care, the care they do need is essential. With the right attention, olive trees yield nutrient-dense olives that produce our premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

For centuries, olive trees have held cultural and spiritual significance and today, they play a vital economic role in many regions. This nourishing fruit is not only the source of high-quality edible oil but is also widely used in cosmetics, hair care, skincare, and a variety of wellness products.

Our dedicated farmers at LO ensure every olive plant receives the best possible care. On this International Day of Plant Health, we want to highlight the importance of nurturing our trees and the role plant care plays in producing quality olives and oil.

We’re also sharing a few simple plant care tips that you can apply to your own indoor or outdoor plants. Small steps can make a big difference.

Plant Care Tips from LO – On the International Day of Plant Health

LO firmly believes that healthy plants are the starting point of a healthy life. On this International Day of Plant Health, we’re sharing simple yet effective care tips based on how we nurture our olive trees. These are going to help you maintain healthy plants at home, whether indoors or outdoors.

Sunlight

Olive trees and other plants like tomatoes, lemons, and other citrus plants, require at least six hours of full, direct sunlight each day. Sunlight is essential for photosynthesis and supports strong growth and fruit development.

Water

One of the best things about olive trees is their drought tolerance. However, they’re sensitive to overwatering. The farmers at LO use sustainable methods like drip irrigation, delivering water directly to the roots while conserving resources, we water our trees only after the top half of the soil has dried out, and we ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot and maintain healthy growth.

But if you are not an olive tree owner then make sure to water your plants as per their requirement. In the case of aquatic plants like cucumber, squash, melon and corns, they need frequent watering especially when they’re in their seedling and cutting stage.

Humidity & Temperature

Olive trees thrive in low to moderate humidity and can tolerate dry air. The ideal temperature range for growth is 50–85°F (10–29°C). Mature olive trees can even withstand temperatures as low as 15°F (-9°C) for short periods.

On the contrary, usually other plants require temperature between 15-24°C (60-75°F) for the ideal growth. It is also essential to understand that it may differ depending on the requirement of the plant.

Pruning

Good news! You might not know but olive trees don’t require much pruning! We recommend trimming bulky branches in the summer and removing smaller shoots in spring. LO thinks that pruning is essential and it helps boost fruit production and ensures that each tree delivers the rich, nutritious olives used in our Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Soil & Fruit Development

The ideal soil for olive trees is a well-draining mix of pine bark, perlite, and compost. Talking about LO, our trees even thrive in rocky or gravelly soil, but we compensate with regular fertilization to make up for low organic content.

The first 2–3 years of an olive tree’s life are dedicated to building a strong, healthy root system. Once mature, the tree enters its fruit-bearing stage driven by proper sunlight, pruning, pollination, and temperature.

Final Words

All plants deserve proper care and LO ensures our olive trees receive the best attention from seedling to harvest. This International Day of Plant Health, we encourage everyone to apply these basic practices to help their plants thrive.

Because Plant Health = Better Human Health!
